I defn agree that losing Colby will hurt locker room chemistry, even if he wasn’t a “leader” (like Recchi and Roberts were a year ago). I think Gill can definitely help solidify the back..not sure who he’ll play with. Good thing he’s familiar with teams in the East.

Yeah my bet on Pujols is based more on a gut feeling than anything. I just was sure to throw at least a little evidence (aka entering what should be his prime years) into the mix. Honestly, though, I really did just say that based on my gut.

Your predictions make sense, but one thing to keep in mind is Albert Pujols is supposed to be really banged up, and who knows what his actual age is, he could be older than 28 so expecting him to put up monster numbers this year isn’t as safe a bet as you’d think.

Yeah he’s signed to a minor-league deal, and there’s no way he plays ahead of LaRoche. Considering Gomez might have a better bat than Mientkiewicz (already getting tired of spelling that), Doug might not even make the squad. The deal makes little sense considering the Pirates log-jam of first-basemen, but regardless I still don’t hate the signing because its a low-risk move. Just so long as Neal and company realize the move has little significant value for the Bucs.

While Dirty Dougie can put the ball in play and get some walks, it doesn’t make up for the fact that he can’t hit for power at all, which decreases his value significantly due to his position. His defense is an asset but since he plays one of the easiest positions on the field he’s expected to supply more offensively. So, unless your shortstop or second baseman drops bombs (or your entire team, a los Yanqui), he’s not really good enough to play more than sparingly off the bench and late in games as a defensive replacement.
